If you want t go the whole hog, you can just install Linux and all decent distributions come with installers that partition your drive and (hopefully) use a bootloader, probably 'GRUB' to boot into and select your Operating system. CD is a bit low rent IMo, as you can't save anything to it wihtout also partitioning and formatting part of your hard drive. You can also boot off of a live CD or an external HDD.
